Packing List

Ok Folks,

It’s our last weekend home before we hit the road for SF and then DC, so we’ll be giving some thought to packing for our drive. We’ve begun to develop a list, but wanted to reach out to our followers for input: What would you bring on a cross country road trip in an EV?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments section, via email,, or via twitter, @xcteslatrip.

  1. Have an awesome trip you guys. Remember, the left lane is for passing and the right lane is for traveling. Don’t drive angry. 🙂

    • Rob, thanks for the reminder of what the lanes are for. After driving out here in CA for years, we’ve become accustomed to using the vacant lane as the passing lane, regardless of its orientation. Complete and utter chaos!

  2. Bring a camping hammock that you can string up between two trees! Packs super tiny! Maybe also a hulahoop and a unicycle to learn new skills in some down time?

Also, truckers are awesome drivers; help them out when you can!

  3. Bring a swimsuit and towel as well as good walking shoes. You’ll be spending time charging at RV parks and some things to spend your time doing are swimming at the pool and taking hikes. Otherwise, you’ll just find another cafe every 3 hours and eat. Charging stops are a good opportunity for getting a close look at towns you’d never even realize existed.
Make sure to check that you are charging on your smartphone regularly. 50 Amp outlets at RV parks tend to blow their old circuit breakers a lot and you don’t want to come back after 4 hours to find you haven’t charged.
I can recommend the Town House Motel at 375 Monroe Street, if you’re staying in Winnemucca, NV. It is quite cheap, clean, and friendly. Its a bit of a walk to the RV park but, while not a chain, is probably the nicest place in town.
